Nicolas W. Shammas, M.D., M.S., E.J.D., F.A.C.C., F.A.C.P., F.C.C.P., F.S.C.A.I.

Dr. Shammas received his combined Master of Science-Doctor of Medicine (MS-MD) degrees at the American University of Beirut, Lebanon. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and his Cardiology Fellowship at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester, NY in 1994. He returned to the University of Iowa, Division of Cardiology where he was a Fellow Associate in Interventional Cardiology. Dr. Shammas is an adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Dr. Shammas has been heavily involved in the research and development of new techniques and procedures and has gained numerous awards and recognition for such. Dr Shammas is board certified in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the Society of Cardiac Angiography and Interventions, and the International College of Angiology.

Dr. Shammas has published over 200 manuscripts, abstracts and book chapters and presented at national and international meetings including the Middle East, Europe, and China. He has served as a reviewer and on the editorial board of several peer-reviewed journals. He has participated in over 125 multi-center clinical trials and, in 1997, established the coronary and peripheral vascular research program at the Genesis Medical Center. Dr. Shammas has won several research and teaching awards including the Preceptor Teacher of the Year Award (2002) by the family practice residents at the Genesis Family Residency Training program. Dr. Shammas is the founder and president of the Midwest Cardiovascular Research Foundation.

Dr. Shammas is licensed in both Iowa and Illinois and is available for outpatient consultations and follow up visits at the Davenport Rusholme Street and Muscatine locations. He has staff privileges at Genesis Medical Centers and Trinity Medical Centers.
